Brief History of Cypress
The city of Cypress was once a lush grassland fed by numerous artesian wells. The first inhabitants were a band of Gabrielinos, which were the dominant tribe in the area. The first ownership of land in Cypress resulted in Spain having to give land to soldiers in place of money. It wasn't until 1956 that Cypress became a city. The Cypress School District was formed on July 1, 1895. Charles lee Damron donated one acre of his ranch for a new school building. The school was named Cypress School because of the trees that were planted along the school yard, the name Cypress was given to the community as well.

The town of Cypress began to expand because of new construction and also new inhabitants. In the late 1940's Cypress was the third largest dairy district in the United States and became known as " Dairy City". The City of Cypress is now a well developed city with many community activities, known landmarks and much more. The Los Alamitos Race Track is part of Cypress and holds many exciting horse races. Forest Lawn Mortuary is also located in Cypress and has other branches throughout the area. The City of Cypress holds many community events that include, the Spring Fling Craft Faire, the Annual Cypress Community Festival and the Annual 5k/10k Run Stroll. Some great restaurants in Cypress include, Agasse, with great service in Japanese food, New Harima Japanese Couisine among others.
